Karen Gersch, MD, FACC, FACS, is a cardiothoracic surgeon practicing with Northeast Georgia Physicians Group (NGPG) Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery. Dr. Gersch specializes in robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery. She is board-certified in thoracic and cardiac surgery.
Dr. Gersch is part of the Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) Lung Nodule Pathway Program, which is designed to detect lung cancer in the early stages when it is most treatable. She performs robotic-assisted minimally invasive lung nodule biopsy and lung cancer surgery.
Her other clinical interests include robotic-assisted lobectomy/segmentectomy, robotic-assisted/minimally invasive cardiac surgery, coronary revascularization, and convergent atrial fibrillation ablation with robot-assisted left atrial appendage ligation.
Dr. Gersch earned her medical degree from Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. She completed her residency in general surgery at CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, and a cardiothoracic surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. She returned to Greenville to complete her fellowship training in minimally invasive robotic surgery at Eastern Carolina Cardiovascular Institute.
